JOFF EVANS

Front elevation of garden room

Built rather like a small house, there’s plenty of different features to get stuck into here: dual pitched tiled roof, sky lights, wood-burner, internal pine cladding,  Yorkshire boarding as cladding and more…

I got to know Joff through a DIY forum and he was pretty far through his build before I’d started mine and so helped answer questions I had.

You can instantly see that this 4m x 4m build is a labour of love and not something which could be achieved off-the-shelf.  There are a couple of things worth highlighting. The first is the blue tyvek is an internal vapour barrier so Joff had to change it for grey later on when he realised his mistake and the second is the cladding. Known as Yorkshire boarding these 1×6″ planks look great and are cost effective. Overlapping by a few centimetres either side they provide a vertical air gap so that no vertical battens are needed. Joff had his planed down to smooth the outer side but the rough finish can look great too. The paint used is Jotun Demidekk paint in Chartwell Green colour, chosen by Joff’s wife, which is guaranteed for 12 years.

Congrats Joff! It looks amazing 🙂
